Beyond Racing is a recently formed charity established by three horsewomen who saw the need for a different approach for racehorses on their retirement. Lyn Shand, Lisa North and Lou Abey, three ladies bound together by friendship and their love of the horse, all have a long history involved with thoroughbreds. All three are Racing Victoria Off The Track Acknowledged Retrainers and Lyn is a licenced RV Racehorse Trainer.

Currently in Australia, some racehorses do not have a very bright future once they retire from racing. Without necessary funding and support these horses can fall into unfavourable circumstances.

The mission of Beyond Racing is to provide a world standard program for retired racehorses, like a superannuation fund. This fiscal backing from Beyond Racing means that more horses can be provided with correct care, rehabilitation and retraining, ensuring they have the best possible chance of living a long and happy future in the equestrian world. Beyond Racing prides itself on our retraining programs which are tailored to each horse’s specific needs.

One horse that Beyond Racing sponsored is Con, a twelve-year old gelding by Econsul, who raced as Diplomatic Waltz. On the track he won $22,290 from 12 starts. Through no fault of his own he was then left in a paddock for close to seven years. On arrival he was in need of love and care, as can be seen in the photo. His feet and teeth had been neglected and his coat and skin were in very poor condition.

Through patience, professional care and training Con was prepared for his new life by one of our expert retrainers and we are happy to report that Con has now found his new home and his outlook for the future is much brighter thanks to Beyond Racing. Without financial support, horses like Con that are not that sought after, do not have a lot of positive options for their future.

Every retired racehorse brings with it endless possibilities and the opportunity for Lyn, Lou and Lisa to further connect the equestrian community with these truly amazing, versatile, athletic and rewarding horses.

Beyond Racing provides a pathway for lovers of horseracing to get involved with our vision, ensuring that the very horses that make up the great “Sport of Kings” are provided with the best possible future on their retirement.

Beyond Racing is establishing a community where breeders, trainers, owners, punters and horse lovers can actively follow the journey of these great animals as they transition to their lives beyond the track. Thus, providing a solution for not just our retired racehorses, but all those involved in racing to really make a difference and be part of this great initiative.
